Secret Stash

This month's meeting was a Secret Stash challenge. Everyone was given an envelope containing the same fabric scraps, some lace and buttons; the challenge, in the spirit of the Sewing Bee was to create something using the pieces in an hour and a half, any techniques or ideas allowed. We did cheat a bit and have an extra half an hour, but it was great fun and the results were all different. We might have another go with different scraps at a later date. Here are some of our efforts in various states of completeness. Hopefully they will be on display at our next exhibition.

Recycled Garden Book

This month's meeting was Sally's workshop making a Recycled Garden Book. All manner of bits of paper were used to create the pages including paper bags, security envelopes, left over bits and pieces, anything that would normally go in the recycling bin. We made stickers with sellotape and used napkins and cling film to jazz up old book pages. We made patches with paper flowers and kneaded paper stitched to fabric scraps and then assembled everything onto a handmade book. It was a pretty full on day but we had great fun.

Production in progress!

A few pages from Sally's original...

...and some from the workshop

In other stitching news, Margaret has been trying out a new Zara Day course on maps and of course there's some stitching with Anne Brooke amongst other things.

Sheep Day

The return of Sheep Day in Skipton! It was great to see the High Street full of visitors again on Sunday for Sheep Day. Claire and I were early starters putting our stall up; we had fun and games with the wind which had the potential to turn us into Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. We managed to baton ourselves down eventually with the help of Jackie on the Yarndale stand and marshals who found us some extra guylines. We had our rainbow squares on display and our final of batch of Morsbags to give away together with some fabric inspiration packs to sell. It was lovely to chat to people again and we met some potential new members which was great.

Casalguidi

Jill led a workshop this month focusing on Casalguidi Stitch and embellishments with beads and sequins. It was an enjoyable day making wiggles!

There was of course some other stitching going on too.

York Embroiderers and Stitchers

Here are the details of York Embroiderers and Stitchers Exhibition. I'm sure it will be well worth a visit if you're around at the time. We're sending best wishes for a successful show after all the hard work that goes into producing something like this.
