Drafting a dress pattern

Wow, what a great morning we had. Saima, one of our members, took us through the process of drafting a dress pattern for our personal measurements. It was quite an involved process but Saima took us through it step by step and explained and demonstrated brilliantly.

We had a formula to use once we had taken our personal measurements - in inches rather than cm - the numbers are smaller 😂. Saima then showed us how to transfer our numbers onto dressmakers tissue to make a pattern. The whole process was really interesting and we took loads of notes; fingers crossed we can work out what we meant! Thanks to Saima for a really useful workshop.

We also had our first Travelling pages swap and welcomed new members. Serena brought in the book of the blackwork coif project for the V&A too.

Yarndale 2021

Great to be back at Yarndale again! Here's our stand with its of lovely goodies to buy with inspiration links on our tutorials tab on this blog. Any left overs will be available at our exhibition in October.

We managed to collect some more of the 4" squares at the meeting last week and they look great on their colour strips.

We also had some travelling books on display as well as some crazy patchwork covered books containing lovely lace collections. We also displayed some mini embroideries members had done that were attached to tags; the hedgehof=g and owl were really popular.

A bit of bling

Just keeping up with these tags is a challenge! This week's involved a bit of bling and because I forgot, last week's brooches.

As far as brooches are concerned Claire and I have been working on some ideas for brooches to sell as little kits at Yarndale; if you want a sneaky peak there are two free tutorials in links on the Resources tab that go with our kits. As we are now an independent stitch group and our funds from our old branch were 'acquired' by Embroiderers' Guild head office we are a bit short in the funds department (let's not get into the ins and outs of HO gathering branch monies), so we decided a bit of fund raising was in order. Yarndale will be our first outing and we will have the brooch kits, a little fabric book kit and some big lucky dip bundles of fabric and trimmings on sale - more details to follow. There will be more free tutorials in our Resources to give some ideas; we hope you'll all take advantage of them.
