The Finished Piece

Well, here it is! The Skipton Castle project is finished and ready for display. We will have it with us at Yarndale and then it will be at the Castle. Come along and have a look next weekend 23rd/24th September. All the squares came together without too much of an argument. All contributors are named on the back and the construction team was Gail, Claire, Carolyn, Sally, Sue and Jill. Well done everyone!

Claire will be giving a talk on Sunday at Yarndale about our big projects - come along around 12.30 I believe.

Return of the Secret Stash

Those of us not on holiday somewhere (hopefully) nice and sunny had a lovely meeting today AND it was the return of the Secret Stash - back by popular demand. Same format as last time - a bundle of fabric and a button, two hours to create something with it - anything at all, any technique. Oooh the pressure! Anyway, as usual there was a wide variety of ideas, some of us weren't brilliant at time management (Saima!) but we had fun anyway and it was nice to see what everyone came up with. Pictures below.

We also unveiled the finished Skipton Castle project. No pictures to share just yet - we will be doing a reveal shortly before Yarndale and the finished piece will be on display there so come and see us! We'll have a bargain sales table and a mini workshop running too. Claire K will be giving a talk on Sunday about our community outreach work, and I have volunteered to be her "glamorous" assistant - though I'm not quite sure what I'll be assisting with or that I will be glamorous!

We have gained new members from some of our Yarndale visitors so do come and find us and listen to Claire's talk.

A busy September

Well, we had a productive meeting today and a short AGM. It was the end of an era as Claire (Chair), Sally (Secretary) and Jane (Treasurer) stepped down after many years. Fortunately Dee has taken on the role of Secretary and Margaret has volunteered to be Treasurer; Jill has taken over Membership. Sally and Claire are in the new role of IT and Social media, which they did before but we decided to make it a bit more official! That leaves the role of Chair. It was decided that we would have a rotating Chair from the Committee members as no-one was keen to volunteer; we feel that this will give an opportunity for more people to become involved by delegating tasks and organising events etc to small groups of people, so fingers crossed. We would like to welcome Christine B to the committee.

As our AGM's are short meetings, so the rest of the day was spent stitching and chatting and discussing various ideas for new projects which will be added to the Group Challenges tab in due course.

We were at Yarndale again at the weekend; it was lovely to chat to people and we had a map of the world for people to stitch patches of fabric on to. Of course we had to go for a little wander too and couldn't resist buying some goodies.

As usual there was a wide variety of stitching going o a the meeting:

Yarndale 2021

Great to be back at Yarndale again! Here's our stand with its of lovely goodies to buy with inspiration links on our tutorials tab on this blog. Any left overs will be available at our exhibition in October.

We managed to collect some more of the 4" squares at the meeting last week and they look great on their colour strips.

We also had some travelling books on display as well as some crazy patchwork covered books containing lovely lace collections. We also displayed some mini embroideries members had done that were attached to tags; the hedgehof=g and owl were really popular.

September Meeting

Today we had our AGM and general meeting. It was so lovely to get back to something resembling normality. We have around 25 returning members for our new incarnation as Skipton Stitchers which is wonderful.

Everyone had a catch up and we managed to accommodate everyone and maintain a certain level of distancing.

We are really pleased to welcome Sue as our new Programme Secretary with our thanks to the outgoing post holder Clare for all her work over the last few years.

Jackie very kindly (and quickly!) made                                                             us some bunting with our new name which we will be using at Yarndale.

We've had a bit of a production line going getting prepared for Yarndale. There have been projects to bag and buttons to sew onto cards. Looking forward to Saturday!

AGM & First Meeting!

Nearly there! Our AGM and first proper meeting since lockdown will be this coming Monday, 20th September, 10-3ish. The AGM will be short so don't let that put you off! We just have some formal bits and pieces to sort out. Membership forms will be available on the day or previous members can do an e-return. If technology doesn't cooperate, which isn't unusual, then just turn up on the day and sort it out then! Margaret (membership secretary) and I have been less than pleased with our Google Drive which has been throwing tantrum and needed a good talking to; we've had to have a cunning plan to get forms and e-receipts out to people. Anyway, IT aside, if you would like to come and join us you would be very welcome. Apart from the AGM we will be sorting a few bits and bobs for Yarndale and then having a good old stitch and natter and catch up with friends we haven't seen for a while.

We are obviously mindful of the Covid situation and will be sanitising surfaces etc; with this in mind the kitchen won't be available so please bring a drink and some lunch.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone again!

August round up

We are having a meeting Monday 16th; we don't normally have an August meeting but given the lack of face to face get togethers over the last year we decided it would be a good idea. That said, I'm not sure how many people will be there as a good few of us are escaping and visiting family and friends or holidaying now we can; anyway, hope those who are able to attend have a good chat and we'll see each other in September at our AGM where we will officially constitute our ISG.

Plans are progressing for our Yarndale stand - watch this space!

The programme is progressing too and looking a lot healthier! Have a look on the tab.

In case you needed another excuse...

As far as stitching goes there continues to be a good variety and we're still sticking with the Anne Brooke tags - I for one am really enjoying these and finding inspiration for other little projects.
