August round up

We are having a meeting Monday 16th; we don't normally have an August meeting but given the lack of face to face get togethers over the last year we decided it would be a good idea. That said, I'm not sure how many people will be there as a good few of us are escaping and visiting family and friends or holidaying now we can; anyway, hope those who are able to attend have a good chat and we'll see each other in September at our AGM where we will officially constitute our ISG.

Plans are progressing for our Yarndale stand - watch this space!

The programme is progressing too and looking a lot healthier! Have a look on the tab.

In case you needed another excuse...

As far as stitching goes there continues to be a good variety and we're still sticking with the Anne Brooke tags - I for one am really enjoying these and finding inspiration for other little projects.

A bit of bling

Just keeping up with these tags is a challenge! This week's involved a bit of bling and because I forgot, last week's brooches.

As far as brooches are concerned Claire and I have been working on some ideas for brooches to sell as little kits at Yarndale; if you want a sneaky peak there are two free tutorials in links on the Resources tab that go with our kits. As we are now an independent stitch group and our funds from our old branch were 'acquired' by Embroiderers' Guild head office we are a bit short in the funds department (let's not get into the ins and outs of HO gathering branch monies), so we decided a bit of fund raising was in order. Yarndale will be our first outing and we will have the brooch kits, a little fabric book kit and some big lucky dip bundles of fabric and trimmings on sale - more details to follow. There will be more free tutorials in our Resources to give some ideas; we hope you'll all take advantage of them.

Online courses

Here's another example form one of our members, Lynda, of a Zara Day online course she's been on. This one was another coral based one but previously members have enjoyed other courses Zara has done.

This month's 4" square challenge was turquoise (there's a few stray's from previous months too!)

AND... last but not least Reasons to buy fabric 6.

Reasons to buy fabric 5 AND threads!

So, I'm not a sun worshipper, it's been way too hot for my liking I have to say, although not too hot for stitching. My friends from the group think I'm a bad influence because I keep tempting them with the threads I've been buying - it's the heat - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.😂

I'm a little bit addicted to Paint-Box Threads and got a bit carried away (not for the first time!):

These are lovely hand-dyed cotton threads and I've been putting them to good use. Have a look at the website [link above] and see if you can resist temptation.
Cathy Really has started posting YouTube videos for the new Bug  Box stitch along; two bugs so far...

Members have been catching up with the 52 tags challenge and our monthly square and I have finished one of my mini books which was lurking under a pile of unfinished things.
We're also at Yarndale this year [keeping everything crossed Covid doesn't interfere] and so we're busy making plans for that; it's involved me rummaging around in the roof looking for things which were 'tidied' and has proved to be a very hot job - I feel some restorative thread shopping coming on...

Here's a photo catch up.

Bit of crochet while watching the Olympics by Judith, who has just joined our WhatsApp chat - what a boon thats been over lockdown.

July Meeting

What a change from our last meeting weather wise. In June it was a bit on the chilly side but today it was glorious. Lovely to chat with those who had been to the Regional Summer School at Bishop Burton and see what they had been up to. Although we have been sharing what we've been up to online, it's really good to see our stitching in reality - lots of oohing and aahing. There's such a diversity of skills and interests and I hope we will be able to get back to some sort of normality with meetings while erring on the side of caution.

We don't usually meet in August but we are this year. Hopefully the weather willcontinue to be kind but of not we should be able to use the church hall.

An eclectic collection

Reasons to buy fabric 4 and what we've been doing with it!

A little round up of some of the latest projects members have been up to - quite an eclectic collection and range of skills and ideas.

So... two different trees, one with traditional hand embroidery and one a little different (from a kit on Alex Waylett's website).

A lampshade and eco-dyeing - unconnected!

And last but not least some mixed media work.
